Migrant Women Leading Change: Strengthening Democratic Participation, Leadership and Collective Action in Gothenburg

About the Project

Migrant women often face barriers including limited access to decision-making spaces, language challenges, social exclusion and discrimination. These barriers can contribute to their underrepresentation in democratic processes and leadership roles.

At the same time, migrant women possess valuable experiences, knowledge and skills that can contribute significantly to more inclusive and democratic societies.

This project aims to strengthen democratic participation, leadership and visibility among migrant women in Gothenburg while fostering stronger collaboration between migrant-led organisations, women's rights groups and WIDE+ member organisations.

Project Activities

From Leadership to Collective Action

Participants will build knowledge, networks and practical tools for stronger democratic participation and advocacy.

Leadership and democratic participation workshops designed to strengthen civic knowledge and leadership skills.

Mentoring

A mentoring program supporting participants in developing confidence, leadership and participation.

Network Circles

Networking circles that strengthen relationships between migrant women, organisations and community actors.

Advocacy

Participants will identify priority issues and develop collective advocacy recommendations.

Public Dialogue

Consultations and dialogue with local stakeholders and decision-makers will amplify migrant women's perspectives.

Awareness Campaign

Storytelling and social media outreach will highlight migrant women as community leaders and change-makers.

Young Women Entrepreneurship & Microcredit

WEINSE aims to support young women and girls transitioning from high school, undergraduate and graduate education into entrepreneurship.

Through entrepreneurship support and access to small-scale capital through a microcredit program, participants will be encouraged to develop and launch small businesses.
